The Weeknd decides to take a step into the booming world of blockchain technology that has sparked an investment craze in art, entertainment, and media. He is teasing a new song which he claims is “coming soon”. It is unclear at this stage whether the song is called ‘Living In NFT Space’ or whether it will be released as an NFT from his description in a tweet.

The 31-year-old singer, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, took to Twitter to explain that his latest release will be a little different. The Weeknd is the latest musician to join the NFT craze, teasing the arrival of a new album as a non-fungible token.

It’s been a year since The Weeknd released his highly acclaimed fourth studio album, which was recently certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The organization also confirmed that the After Hours tracks “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” are now double-platinum and 7x platinum singles. The album made history by becoming the first one to spend an entire year in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10.

If he chooses to go with it, the song’s earnings could be incredibly lucrative, far outweighing the earnings he will gain from a typical publication. EDM DJ Grimes recently sold a set of NFTs for nearly $6 million, and rappers such as Azaelia Banks, Lil Yachty, Ja Rule, and Post Malone have also gotten into the cryptocurrency trend.

Bhad Bhabie is selling her “Cash Me Outside” meme as an NFT, while Azealia Banks sold an audio sex tape for around $18,000.

Just last week, The Weeknd celebrated the 10th anniversary of his debut mixtape House of Balloons by making the original edition available on all streaming platforms. The Weeknd is a megastar, and his global popularity could help the NFT movement gain traction even faster.
