So for the small amount of you who don’t know “Bad Luck Brian is a meme that features an unflattering yearbook photo of Kyle Craven that was shared all around the web in 2012 by his best friend Ian Davies.

Well, Brian was unlucky by now but, blockchain again proved that it can change everything. So “Bad Luck Brian” had a lucky break this week when the original photo featured in the famous meme was sold by the creator for 18ETH ($36k).

The artwork was auctioned on The Foundation, one of the most famous NFT marketplaces on the Ethereum blockchain.

The auction was closed on March 9th and the winner with username @a won a piece including a digital signature or proof of ownership saved on the blockchain data for the Bad Luck Brian photo.

The demand for NFT memes is booming. In February, the Nyan Cat meme was sold as an NFT for nearly $600,000. Another early internet joke is for sale on Foundation. “Scumbag Steve” was sold for almost $52,000.

Foundation app was launched as an NFT marketplace in February 2021 and hit $1M in sales within two weeks. They got popular and successful with a huge sale of the viral internet meme Nyan Cat. Their recent big sale was Pak’s Finite. Honorable mentions are artists Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, Shawna X, Yung Jake, Aphex Twin, Zach Lieberman, Kim Laughton, Sarah Zucker, Devendra Banhart, Viktoria Modesta, Serwah Attafuah, and Dom Hofmann, the co-founder of Vine.

With this list, the sky is a limit for the Foundation NFT marketplace.
