The Uefa and Premier League are seeking legal guidance over John Terry using the pictures of their trophies in NFTs. Meanwhile, Chelsea Football Club is also evaluating John Terry’s NFTs post since it also featured pictures of the club’s badge.
The NFT in question was advertised and promoted via John Terry’s Twitter account. The NFT is a cartoon of baby apes that features the Europa League, Champions League, and Premier League trophies. The tweet made by Terry was also retweeted by Ashley Cole, his ex Chelsea teammate.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the tweet has captured the attention of both the UEFA and Premier League. Their trophies are protected by trademark and a licensing authorization with the UEFA and league is required for their use. According to Uefa, the body behind the Champions League and Europa League, the preservation of its intellectual property is serious business. Hence, they are carefully investigating the matter.

The Football Association (FA) is also following the situation surrounding the NFT activities linked to Terry’s Twitter account. This is because the image also featured the Community Shield, England kit, and FA Cup trophy.
Just recently, John Terry took up a role as a consultant with Chelsea’s football academy. Since then, has been advertising the Ape Kids Club NFTs via his Twitter account. Other players have also joined the movement with Jack Wilshere, Nigel de Jong, and Bobby Zamora shouting active support. Reece James, the England and Chelsea right full-back have also recently tweeted about minting a Mutant Ape NFT.
The Ape Kids Club NFTs promoted by John Terry is a node of another prominent NFT, called the “Bored Ape Yacht Club”. The BAYC NFT collection promotes about 10,000 cartoon apes. Meanwhile, the Ape Kids Club promotes 9,999 various ape NFTs which are available for sale.
Upon investigation, it has come to light that Ashely Cole only retweeted Terry’s NFTs post as a sign of support. So far, he’s not in any contract with the company behind the “Ape Kids Club”
